7 days
Time is ticking away. Everything is prepared. Maggie and I want to thank everybody who has sent us info on the areas we are going to visit. We are going to have the time of our life. Maggie really deserves it after working seven days a week for the last 3 months. It will be culture shock and temperature shock landing in Dublin on 9/11. The average temps are in the 60's during the day then 40's at night. it will be a comfortable change. Then when we go south to Italy we will be right in the same temperature zone that we live in.
Keep checking here for updates while we are away. i hope to be able to post pictures here and also on Flickr.com. I have to learn some more on how to use that site. i should be able to post pictures directly from my blackberry while on the move.
Its so exciting. We are going to see some of the world!!
REMEMBER TO KEEP UPDATED ON LOCAL GOINGS ON LIKE THE HUDSON SEAFEST BY GOING TO THE WEST PASCO NAVIGATOR.
OUR HOME IDEAS WILL BE CLOSED FOR A MONTH AND WILL REOPEN IN OCTOBER
I don't know how she does it but my lovely wife Maggie still finds the time to clean up around the house and outside weeding.

AWAY WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God bless and have a great and safe trip. In Rome do as the Romans do, what we tell new Floridians, but they never listen. And remember senso unica is not a street name, but means one way, don't use it as a marker like I did ha, ha, ha.
I will say, though that Rome and Naples area does have crime, and hope you keep that in mind. The best pickpockets in the world I've heard them referred to as. And many are foreign, not even Italian, Italy has imported a large work force from some Arab nations, at least that was the case when I visited.
I recall a handbag being grabbed by an Arab (nothing against Arabs, please allow me to clarify) and almost a mob scene as he scooted away w/people chasing him.
Amalfi, if you get a chance, the palace of the Kingdom of Naples is in Amalfi, and the title of a new Japanese movie. The palace for the King of Naples at Amalfi, so the King could get away from crowded Naples, is said to be only surpassed by the beauty of Versailles. Versailles was what it was modeled on.
God bless and enjoy a once in a lifetime trip you earned it and a couple of pics, especially Rome and Pompeii. Of course Ireland also, a rich and loyal history to Rome, wow, what an interesting connection to explore as well. Happy trails, sincerely - Blogass.

Yes the pickpocket thing has been mentioned to me by others also so I Guess it is a real threat. We will try to keep close and not ASK for it , if ya know what I mean. We have gotten a lot of interesting tips on how to handle the money situation when traveling abroad. Downtown NY poses an equal threat I believe. We don't expose a lot of jewelry and stay close holding hands like young lovers in high school. oooooo its so nice to still feel that way after all these years!
Grazie
Arrivederci

Pompeii is a MUST. If you are in Naples, you must go to see Pompeii, a two thousand year old city preserved as it was during the height of the Roman Empire 79 A.D. I believe.
Bodies lie preserved just as they died under the fire and ash two thousand years ago. Dead, lying in the houses and streets where they fell, and died, children in mothers arms, deceased and preserved, for two thousand years.
You will be able to see the inside of a home, two thousand years old, from the age of Christ, just the way people lived then. The streets and sidewalks, even graffiti is still preserved on walls. It rivals the Colisieum. It was only discoverd 130 years, or so ago and they are still digging.
The ash preserved this historic city exactly as it was when Mt. Vesuvius buried it. Mt. Vesuvius will bellow and erupt again - this time taking 3 million Neopolatins with it.
Pompeii was a resort city for/of the Roman elite. There is food, wine preserved just as it was, stoves cooking just as they were when the city erupted, was buried.
I visited it briefly, had little time, and Of 3+ weeks trekking all over Europe remains my biggest regret that I did not explore Poppeii, spending but a few hours there. The streets, stones, still have the ruts of the chariots engraved in them forever. The stepping stones to cross the streets, w/spaces for the chariots, and the walls inside the houses w/the frescos intact, 2,000 years later. DON'T MISS POMPEII I REGRET IT TILL THIS DAY, that I just spent a small amount of time there and at the Bay of Naples, one of the most gorgeous views of the Meditterenean, from hundreds of feet above on one lane mountain roads.
Alla Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman.
