Sundance Log August 2011
August has brought sunshine and highs of 60 degrees to the Aleutian Islands. There was one more opening for 24 hrs for fishing for the salmon. We did not reach our goal and there will be a fall run but I do not believe that we will be here for that.
We are exploring and dredging for gold. We also found a cave system that might be of interest to my good friend Paul Heinerth who is famous for his many cave expeditions. He mapped the cenotes in Akumal Mexico and worked on the Wakulla project along with his wife Jill. The big difference here is the water temp. It is hovering at a chilly 41 degrees. My friends at Middletown Scuba say that is nice as they are into ice diving in the winter, brrrrrr. Dry suits and a nice warm boat and all are well.
Our exploring has gone well and we are working on the main piece of equipment for the dredge operation. I awoke one morning in a small bay where there used to be a canning operation. All I could say was AWESOME! There also was a small village where the people that worked at the cannery all lived. It is a ghost town now. It is too bad as it is a beautiful location. I am going to dig into the real estate market here which is controlled mostly by several tribes that are now corporations. I have several ideas for businesses in the area and the fishing market is on the rise once again. I do believe I will put the Great Escape 4 to work and look into building the Great Escape 5. Ahh the thrill of adventure is running thru my veins. It is so great to be back in my true environment.
